quirble... now in 3D

with the power of 25+ y/o 3D modeling software...

you ever see those vaporwave/d&b/[insert nostalgic genre here] albums on youtube, where the thumbnail uses a bunch of computer-generated imagery from an obviously-90s piece of software, in an attempt to give this "nostalgic" vibe?

case in point: this video .

that thumbnail and all the ones like it were probably not made with a cool 90s graphics workstation like a Silicon Graphics machine, oh no. instead they were most likely made using Bryce, a primitive 3D modeling/rendering program that originated in the 90s to be used on Apple Quadra workstations. Eventually it found its way to Windows, and thank god for that; Windows 10 supports Bryce 4 - the 1999 version of the software! I don't have to worry about virtualboxing or emulation or exercising my various Apple JankBooks (although that WOULD be fun...) ,

since I can just run Bryce right on my modern PC! yippee!! anyways i thought it would be fun to try and make some of those 3D thumbnails or just general renders or whatnot. it's honestly quite easy and fun, but at 1080p some of these renders take a little while! and I don't have the cool SiliconGraphics charm that comes when you spend more money on your Indigo Elan than you would on an actual literal Lotus Elan...

presenting the quirb gallery of shitty 3d scenes

this is my first "presentable" render, something basically any beginner could make instantly. a mountain... in a big ol' pile of water... with 3 basic shapes to test out textures. don't you want to put the toroid in your mouth? it looks so smooth and would probably have such a nice texture to put in your mouth you should put it in your mouth. (it kind of looks like a liquid-gel ibuprofin pill??)

heres some basic renders of a small islandy thing, and a plane/spaceship/thing launching some projectiles at a base on it - i was trying to make it look like a radome, hopefully it could be convincing. this is basically just me getting used to all the weird texture and modeling things that Bryce 4 has to offer on the surface level. it's so glunky. do the wingtip vortices of the wings look cool? they're just a few cylinders with cloudmaps lol.
